Compensation range for this position is $24.95 - $32.76 per hour.
Compensation is determined based on non-discriminatory, business-related factors, including but not limited to, training, experience, education and/or professional certifications, geographic location, and market data.
The primary function of the Quality Control Analyst is to perform physical and chemical testing on incoming herbs and finished product to ensure conformance to quality standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform a variety of analytical tests on herbs; routinely perform moisture, ash, extractable matter, and essential oil distillations.
- Analytical testing requires working safely with hazards such as an oven, a benchtop furnace, hotplates, distillation heat elements, lab glassware, acids, and other chemicals.
- Complete out-of-specification investigations and documentation of non-conforming results.
- Regularly review pharmacopeial monographs and test methods to ensure testing procedure is current and compliant
- Edit and update controlled documents as needed for accuracy, such as forms and SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with GMP documentation requirements.
- Complete special projects as needed, both short-term priorities and long-term objectives
- Support/serve as back-up to identity testing by HPTLC (High Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography) on incoming herbs and finished product
- Sampling of herb shipments in the warehouse
- Serve as a backup to the microbiology lab when needed. Primary backup function will be to read/enumerate plates. May include setting plates, prep work, and autoclaving.
- Maintain lab cleanliness through regular cleaning of work area and washing own glassware
- Care for lab equipment with regular cleaning and any suggested preventative maintenance that does not require special expertise
- Attend team meetings within Quality and interdepartmental meetings as assigned
- Additional tasks as assigned by department manager.
- No direct supervisory or budgetary oversight
Education/Experience:
- One year lab experience, either educational or industry setting
- BA or BS in a scientific discipline or equivalent education and/or experience
- One year of experience in food production, dietary supplements, or other regulated industry preferred
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
- Experience with basic laboratory equipment and techniques required – analytical balances for weighing, volumetric glassware, micropipettes, sterile handling, chemical safety
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to read and interpret technical and regulatory documents.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills
- Working knowledge of GMPs preferred
- Basic microbiology experience and/or knowledge a plus
- Bilingual – English/Spanish highly desired.

- This position is based in Sebastopol, CA. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 5:00pm. Expected in-offices days are Monday through Friday. Plant scheduled overtime shifts must be supported. Subject to change.
- Remote candidates will not be considered for this role.
- Works primarily in the QC laboratory. A lab coat is worn while performing tests. Hazardous chemicals are present, requiring adherence to chemical and safety policies.
- Occasional work in the production area or storage warehouse where GMP dress codes and hygiene practices are strictly enforced (gowns, hair nets, removed jewelry, hand washing, etc.)
